Oh past-Brent! Thank you so much for updating this thing so that at times like tonight, I can look back and remember the good times! How times have changed, for the better mostly - but it's so good to read memories and smile. |

Oh LiveJournal, how you've served me well these past few years.
I am sorry to say though, that I really don't have the urge to update you much anymore. It's not to say I don't have interesting things happening to me that I would like to remember in years to come, it's just that I'm so, so lazy. Or is that busy? Make that busy. University, you know.
I've been going through a bit of shit these last few months, and yes, I've ended up on some medication in the process. Lately, I've been wanting more often than not - to die, quite frankly. However, last night I had what some might call an "epiphany". I'm not going to go into details on here because it's not something I really want any old person who happens to stumble upon this page to be able to read, but that's not to say it's a secret - so if you happen to be reading this want want to know, just ask.
I no longer feel so bad that I want to die. That's not to say I feel 100% yet, but I think perhaps that soon enough, I might.
That is all.
Brent. |

| If it's headline news, then Hoddle has an opinion! |
[Jan. 4th, 2007|04:08 pm] |
And so begins my new career as official media manager of Nicole Hoddle. We begin today with several important announcements.
PAEDOPHILIA
"Nicole Hoddle wishes to advise the human race that she does NOT under ANY circumstances have feelings of sexual desire towards legally defined children of any age."
WAR IN IRAQ
Nicole Hoddle condemns strongly the recent sectarian violence playing out in Iraq, saying it's destroying Iraq as a secular but strongly Islamic country.
"It's sad to see such violence, which goes against the teachings of the Koran, ripping apart one of the oldest, and most archaeologically rich countries in the world," she says.

| | The Final Countdown...do do do do dooo | ] | Well today, according to my calendar, is the 5th of November and that, my friends is my birthday. Now the 5th of November of 2006 was not just your average day - no, in fact it was the 18th 5th of November that yours truly has lived through.
Today, in the eyes of the law - I become a man. Hmm...
To celebrate this milestone, I had a party last night. This party had been in the pipeline for some time - quite well planned. A special shout-out goes to, apart from my mum who pretty much did organise the whoel thing single handedly, Hoddle for the sheer enthusiasm she put into this event! Go Hoddle!
So I rocked up around 6pm in a shirt that was probably smelly and somewhat wrinkled after an hour and-a-half long car trip from Brisbane, where I had an exam earlier in the day. Now from previous experience I should have been prepared - whenever my family attempt to host some sort of gathering, it doesn't just rain - it pours. Maybe the Government should give us some sort of cash initiative to have more parties to try and break the drought or something, I don't know. But yes, it poured for at least an hour drowning out the sounds of music with the earth-shattering splish splash of water on the hall's roof. Eventually however, it died down and people started to arrive (thank God, I always have a terrible feeling that nobody is going to turn up).
I can't really recall the events of the night in chronological order, so instead, I'm going to name people and tell list what they gave me for my birthday... And if you didn't get me anything, well...shame on you! Just kidding!! I love you all!
James - A bottle of whiskey
Nikki - A bottle of vodka
Julie - A bottle of wine (can you see a pattern here?) + scratchies on which I won $7
Hoddle - a sort of drawing/"inking" as I call it, of Alf and Gumby (my childhood favourites) attached to like some sort of timber so I can like... I don't know, mount it on the wall? lol + A DVD about Egypt for when I go in about a year and she came out of cookie retirement to bake me the world's best bakery-related items in the world!
Alysse - the book I've been wanting for about a year now, "Romanitis" by Sophia McDougall
Daniel+ Family - The Da Vinci Code Extended Edition DVD
Greg - "Absolutely Absorbing Australian and New Zealand Bathroom Reader"
Degan - the boardgame "Hungry Hungry Hippos!" YEAH!
Peter - "Picture" magazine... Oh Peter...
Gede and Jarrod - a $25 voucher for ice-cream at Baskin Robbins! Mmmm...icecream!
Lauren - $30 Sanity Gift Card
Other Family - money and gift vouchers
My Uncle Mark and Aunty Leanne put on the beer
But perhaps the most surprising of all was my Uncle Michael and Vicki who managed to find an Alf doll on Ebay that was exactly like my childhood "best mate" that I recently lost, and was devastated about. Sounds stupid I know, but you get really attached to these things... So yeah, that was so unbelievably fantastic
Tim - One of those rubber things you stick between your toes if they're sore... or so Leena explained to mw
Leena - socks in which she embroided my name into
Jack and Alexis - One of those "20 questions" contraptions that tries to guess what sort of object or whatever you're thinking of - HOW DOES IT KNOW!!? lol
Sam - Mark Latham's book of quotes + Stickmen
And not to mention an assortment of creative cards from the likes of Beth, Corrin and Tegan. Very very very special shout-out to Lisa Elf who sent me a fantastic note and self-portrait all the way from Woy Woy. Thanks Lisa!
I know I've forgotten people and I'm sorry but you know, I'm operating on minimal sleep right now... I promise I will edit this if I think of you!
So the night went well, including everybody in the room now being able to say they've seen me naked - we won't go there.
The party wrapped up, I turned 18 and I went out with Hoddle, Nikki and the like to suss out the Toowoomba "night life". Yeah, clubbing pretty much sucks as I already knew before I went out, but I think if I were more "tanked" so to speak, I'd enjoy it...maybe!
All in all, very great birthday and I just want to thank you all for making it a very memorable occasion and for making me feel so special and loved.
Peace out, Brentus |

| Toowoomba Referendum |
[Jul. 29th, 2006|03:52 pm] |
Toowoomba City Councillor Graham Barron has told the Courier Mail he believes the city's residents will vote down the proposal to add recycled effluent to the water supply if much of today's sentiment is anything to go by.
“It is not looking overwhelming either way but there is a slight indication that the people of Toowoomba do not want to drink sewage water,” he said.
With just over two hours until polls close, it looks set to be a close race to get the controversial plan over the line.
From talking with voters today, there have been mixed reactions - some saying they'd made up their minds "ages ago", to those who were still making up their minds as they walked through the gates to cast their votes.
Whichever the outcome, it seems that the idea of recycling sewerage will not go away, with Premier Peter Beattie suggesting that even if Toowoomba residents vote "No", he will continue to advertise the pros of recycling water well into the future. |

CITY STILL DIVIDED OVER WATER FUTURES AS POLLS NEAR CLOSE
With four hours to go before polls close, Toowoomba residents are continuing to vote on the council’s plan to recycle waste water to supplement the city’s water supply.
Rosemary Morley, the co-ordinator of the Citizens Against Drinking Sewerage (CADS) group was ready to cast her ballot, letting the media know in no uncertain terms how she plans to vote.
“There’s nowhere else in the world that’s doing it at this rate, and we’re not convinced about the safety of it, because there’s no long term study where society has done it at 29 – 40% sewerage,” she says.
But despite the polling booth at Centenary Heights State High School being a flurry of media activity due to the presence of many staunch “No” campaigners, members of the Green’s Party were still out in force.
Bede, a member of the party reiterated the Green’s view that recycled water is important for the future sustainability of the state.
“We have to work towards a sustainable outcome, things like bores and that sort of thing leads to salinity, and it’s not a resource that’s unlimited,” he says.
He also said that he was unsure about Clive Berghofer’s motivation to back the “No” vote, and was less than impressed with some of tactics employed by their opposition.
“Clive Berghofer said in the Australian just this morning that he wouldn’t mind if it was any other city - if he hasn’t got a problem with any other city, than I don’t see why he has a problem with Toowoomba,
“And they resort to some dirty tactics, just yesterday they tried to get our “How to Vote” cards banned, the returning officers ruled them legal, because they’re all authorised, and they’re still complaining about it,” he said.
The polls close at 6:00pm. |

WaterFuture Poll By Brent Davidson
CITY STILL DIVIDED AS RESIDENTS HEAD TO POLLS
Toowoomba residents are going to the polls this morning to vote on the council’s controversial plan to top up the city’s water supply with recycled effluent.
But residents are still deeply divided on the issue, with strong voices on either side of the debate still trying to win votes at the gates of polling booths.
Secretary of the Toowoomba Green’s Party, Lee Mason was busy handing out “Yes” leaflets at the polling booth at Darling Heights State School.
He says while recycled water is not the answer to Australia’s water crisis; it is one of a number of steps that has to be taken.
“We’ve been in a period of drought; it doesn’t look like it’s going to break, long distance weather forecasters are forecasting that the next hundred years are going to be dryer than this hundred years,
“If we don’t say yes today, the rest of the state will overtake us… we will then get it back [the recycled water] through a pipeline and be much more expensive,” he says.
On the other side of the debate, Colleen, an independent supporter of the “no” vote says that the council’s figure of 25% of the water supply be comprised of the treated effluent, is much too high.
“It’s already been established that they’re having complications in London which is 14%, and the 1% in Singapore, and the customs warn you not to drink the water in Singapore, so it’s a complete controversy,
“For our children’s sake, the pathologists are saying no,” she says.
The polls will remain open until 6:00pm tonight. |

KEARNEY SPRINGS: Speed has been blamed for an accident on the corner of Spring and Hume Streets last night in which a teenage boy narrowly missed crashing into a house.
No police were called to the scene, but the owner of the house, Sharyn Tanner was clearly shaken.
“I just can’t believe how close the car came to actually crashing into our living room.” she said.
While damage to the front garden is extensive, the owner will not be pressing charges.
“I’m just thankful there wasn’t more damage… And I must say that I think there needs to be more road safety education before teenagers can get their license.” she said. |

Just before I go to bed I wanted to update this LJ to remind myself of one of the best and most ridiculous conversations I've ever had. I've spent probably four hours talking to Michael on MSN - some of it serious, but most of it utter shit. I love the ability to talk utter shit with my friends, it's grand. Goodnight. |

I was just sitting here and it dawned on me, that Lisa and I are not going to be able to rule Harristown and Concordia effectively while living in Brisbane and Woy Woy, so, while I'm not completely comfortable with renouncing my Royal Title just yet, I know a lot of Yr 11s float around on LJ, so if you're reading this, I'm looking for people to become Regents on behalf of Lisa and I.

Well only 24 days until the Olympic Winter Games in Torino. I always look foward to the Olympic Games, but this year, I have new repect for Winter Olympians thanks to Ski Trip. I also find it slightly daunting to think that I'm not entirely sure where I'll be living by the time the Olympic Games are over. |

I was thinking last night that after my three years at QUT are up, I'm going to try my hardest to secure a journalism posting on the Sunshine Coast. It's always been my second home and I'd feel extremely comfortable living there - and I have shitloads of family residing there. I went to the Caloundra City Council website last night and was reading up on its prospects, and I must say I was impressed. I mean, once you get through the PR spin and bullshit, it is still a very livable, vibrant coastal City. Opportunity wise, Channel Nine and TEN have Sunshine Coast bureaus, WIN has a local bulletin for the coast, and of course Seven Local News. I'm not adverse to working on the Sunshine Coast Daily either.
I'm pretty much in love with the Sunshine Coast, and I always have been. |

| | "Relaxing Piano Music" - Jim Brickman | ] | Well today I bought a new laptop - turns out it's exactly the same one that Corrin got for Christmas. Yay for Harvey Norman, they sure know how to pitch a sale.
I was just sitting here thinking about a few of the things that I left out of my "2005 was great" entry. While I was going through which files to bring over onto this computer, I opened up the folder of music I spent one late night frantically finding for our Film and TV assignment, when it dawned on me that I never wrote about it in my LJ.
We affectionally know this period of Film and Television as the "Nottingdeath Age". Now, we were studying Foreign Film, which was the most boring thing in the world. Ms Holland can insist all she likes that it was informative, interesting and thoroughly enjoyable but honestly, I want to gag just thinking about it. Anyway, our Practical assessment was to recreate a foreign film in a group. So me, Carli, Michael and Peter joined forces to create what some affectionally describe as "The worst thing they have ever seen". Now, to be fair, I'm sure that if we'd had a bit more time and hadn't adopted the "fuck it" attitude we could have made something better, but alas, it was not to be. I must stress here that we had many, many technical fuck-ups.
1. Peter's camera didn't record. I don't know how, I don't know why but it would not record. We didn't think to have a back-up plan because why on earth would we need one? Peter's camera was invincible. Ha. I think we possibly wanted to kill ourselves slightly by this stage.
2. We went back to my house to see if my cameras battery was charged - it was not. I began to charge it as we frantically scrambled to find someone with a video camera. I rang Daniel, he didn't. I talked to Alister on MSN, he didn't. I asked Lauren, she didn't. She did however, think Erin may have had a school camera. I can't exactly remember whether she did or not, but I do remember that we didn't use it at any rate. So, almost defeated we suddenly remembered that none other than Leisa Fell had a camera! We rang, and proceeded to her house in the very scary at night Cottswold Hills.
3. We got to Leisa's after much, much driving. Peter managed to piss everyone off. Sorry if you're just reading this now Peter and not realise that you did, but oh man you did! The quote which got me was when you yelled at Carli to "KEEP DRIVING!". Anyway,Leisa was wearing Minnie Mouse pyjamas (how cute of her) and her Dalmation was also there. Thanks for that bit of pointless information Brent. Next, my blood turned cold as I remembered I'd left the tape we were supposed to be using back at my house. Luckily, Leisa had a tape she could lend us.
We got back in the car, and found this really spooky tree on the side of a road. I couldn't tell you now where it was, and I'm sure no-one else actually remembers where abouts it was either. But we got some very very shitty filming done. It wasn't until we started editing the footage together at school that we realised how dark and generally shitty it was. We stayed at school the night it was due until about 6:00 trying to salvage the unsalvagable. We ended up putting in subtitles and stock music to make it go for five minutes. We also named it, on a whim "Nottingdeath". Oh my, how terrible it was.
We got a D+/E+ for the assignment. It wasn't hilarious at the time, but after we got over the inital upset, and watched it again, I don't think I've ever seen anything funnier. All ends well though, we got to "selectively update" the assignment, and thanks to Mr Reuther, remade what I think was a fantastic production. It was called "Dr Death" and it was about a janitor who inexplicably decides he wants to dress up as a doctor and kill people. I have a feeling Peter pissed us off sometime during this production as well. Except we had some great moments. I remember editing until 7:00 one night at Carli's house - it was storming and Michael and I had eaten all her Doritos and a packet of Cheds. I was scared of her mum killing me. Also, while filming a murder scene, Peter ACTUALLY DID hit Michael in the head with a rusty old rake. But anyway, there was some great camerawork, and some fucking fantastic shirtless acting from Tim, and we got a B+/A-.
The credits may say "Dr Death" but in our hearts, it will always be "Nottingdeath 2: Attack of the Rakes" |

I'm sitting here thinking about Lisa. I miss her so much, is it unnatural? I think about her all the time - when I watch TV I'll see something and I think "Man, I have to tell Lisa about this...". We have this weird, unique sense of humour that comes from all things television. Don't ask me how, but we can talk and laugh for hours about slow motion montages when people leave TV shows, or why Moira never once thanked Bert Newton! It's been just over a month, but it feels like years already. I want to see her so badly, I have this urge just to get in my car and drive. Maybe I can make it down in February - I'm going to try my hardest. It feels like a big chunk of my heart has been ripped out and is now living in Woy Woy. I've been thinking, that not only is Lisa my rock, but she's more like a sister/cousin to me than a friend. I can't think of her in a "I like you, I want to go out with you" way, because it's Lisa! Lisa! My very very good friend Lisa. It's just the way it is.
Come home. |
